Holy Cross Library Summer Hours — 2012

Wednesdays, June 6– July 25*

9:00 A.M. – 12:30 P.M.

Where can I get the summer reading list books?

  • Books can be obtained from Holy Cross Library, the public library, area bookstores, or online vendors such as amazon.com, booksamillion.com, or alibris.com.

  • Students may checkout up to 4 books each week from our library.  Books are due back in 2 weeks.

  •  The last day for summer checkouts is July 25.  All books should be returned by the end of the first full day of school in August.

What books are on my child’s list?

  • Your child’s summer reading list is on this website under Summer Reading List By Grade, with specific directions from the teacher.  Those directions are different for each grade level, so please read them carefully.
  • If your child has previously read all listed books, other grade appropriate books by the listed authors are acceptable.  Please check http://www.arbookfind.com to be sure an AR test is available.

  • The assigned list is for the grade your child will enter in August.

What about Accelerated Reader testing?

  • Students entering 1st grade do not take AR tests in the summer.   They will be introduced to the Accelerated Reader program during their 1st grade school year.

  • Students who are entering grades 2-6 are required to take AR tests on some of their summer books.  Please check the directions on your child’s list for this information.

  • AR tests  can be taken in the library on Wednesdays this summer between 9:00-12:30.  All summer testing  must be completed by the end of the first full week of school.

  • Students who can not come to the library on Wednesday, may use a computer in the office to take AR tests on Monday-Thursday between the hours of 9:00-11:30 and 1:00-3:30

Other important information

  • Students should have an adult with them while they are on campus.  No drop-offs, please.

  • The library needs to be a quiet place for students who are testing or reading. Please use the Great Hall or another area of the school to visit with friends.

*The library will be closed on July 4.

Holy Cross Episcopal School Library opens at 7:30 daily during the school year and is open on Wednesday mornings during the summer from 9:00 until 12:30.  Our collection consists of more than 9,000 holdings including books, periodicals, and reference materials.

Computers are available for students to use for research and to search the library catalog.  While anyone can browse our online catalog, currently enrolled students may login and use additional resources such as WebPath Express, a service which leads them to safe, accurate, age-appropriate websites. They can also create resource lists and write book reviews. Our school and library also offers Accelerated Reader, a reading program which tests a student’s comprehension of the library books they read.  The library has over 5,800 AR Tests available for student use.
